Increasingly, I find this question to be a useful thought exercise. Your 'X' can be different in different situations. For me, X is often related to anxiety, but sometimes it's also time, concerns over what people think, or a desire for perfection.Thought exercises are powerful tools to make you question why you make the decisions you do. It's worth investigating how many of your reasons for not doing something you otherwise want to do come down to the same fears. Those fears can lose their hold over you when you put a name to it.This doesn't mean you need to pursue everything that you are scared of doing right now. Increasingly, I find awareness to be the first step. There is a difference between recognising that you do not want to do something because you are feeling too anxious this week and concluding that you are a failure for not being able to do the thing.Awareness can help you to identify a smaller challenge that you are capable of doing. It can also stop you from making deeper conclusions about your sense of self worth, particularly if you can begin to understand why you feel the way you do.
